[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The National Model United Nations annually draws participants from more than 130 UN Member States to address current global issues. This type of experiential learning programs, including the world’s largest university-level Model United Nations, provide students with a forum to hone skills in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, compromise, public speaking, writing, and research.
This year, our student delegation was formed by 6 students from the Political Science Major, who were able to take great advantage from this educational experience.
We present the testimonial of Virginia Garcia, Vice President of our Student Government Association (SGA) and Political Science Student who was part of our delegation.
“The moment you start taking university courses, you might feel overwhelmed by the many words and concepts that you can’t make sense of. As time goes by you start understanding these concepts, and in several cases, you find yourself loving many of them. But as much as you think you know and love what you’ve learned at university, you’re never sure of your level of knowledge until you’ve tested it out in the real world.
Luckily I was able to test out my knowledge acquired as a Political Science student by attending the Model United Nations in the University for Peace in Costa Rica. I believe this is an amazing experience for any student because not only does it give you the chance to test skills and knowledge in comfortable and risk free environments, but it also gives you the chance to gain new knowledge by further interacting with professors, fellow classmates, and students from all around the world. I’m very glad I was able to count the MUN as part of my Keiser University experience, and I’m very pleased to have learned as much as I did.”
